North Austin is unusual in that three school districts carve it up. Depending on the street, a family here might be zoned to Austin ISD, Round Rock ISD or Pflugerville ISD — which means kids who grow up on the same block can end up at three different high schools.
Our north Austin players come out of Burnet and Murchison middle schools in Austin ISD, Canyon Vista in Round Rock ISD and Westview in Pflugerville ISD, and they go on to Anderson, McCallum, McNeil, Westwood and Connally high schools. That spread is exactly why a club team matters here. School ball puts your child in one building with one coach; our practices put them on the floor against the best players from all three districts every week.
Our gyms are the closest serious AAU option heading north: Austin Sports Center Cedar Park, Henry Middle School and Round Rock Sports Center, an easy drive from Anderson Mill, Jollyville, Wells Branch, Milwood, Great Hills and the Domain area. Little Hoopers is where our youngest north Austin players start. Built for boys and girls ages 6 to 8, it teaches dribbling with both hands, catching and passing on the move, shooting form and simple team play, all through games rather than lines. North Austin is a genuine crossroads. Families here might be zoned to Austin ISD, Round Rock ISD or Pflugerville ISD depending on which side of a road they live on, which means kids from the same neighborhood often end up at different schools. Impact Sportz was founded in Chicago by Lonnie Welch and Toron Clark and relocated to Austin, coaching Central Texas players since 2010. Our teams pull all of those kids back onto one floor. Boys join teams in 4th grade and girls in 5th, and many stay with the same coaching staff through high school.

Yes. Impact Sportz is an independent AAU club, not tied to any district. Our north Austin players come from Austin ISD, Round Rock ISD and Pflugerville ISD campuses, and they all train together. That mix is one of the reasons the competition inside our practices is strong.
What ages do you coach?
Little Hoopers runs ages 6 to 8 and is an introduction rather than a competitive team. Team basketball starts in 4th grade for boys and 5th grade for girls and continues through high school. If you are unsure where your child fits, email impactsportz@gmail.com and describe their experience.
When is the AAU season?
The main stretch runs February through July, picking up right after the school season ends. We also field fall and winter teams, plus camps and small group training year round, so north Austin players who want reps between school seasons have somewhere to go.
No. Plenty of north Austin kids come to us from rec leagues, school ball or nothing at all. Camps, Little Hoopers and small group training exist for exactly that player. When a child is ready for the pace of AAU, we will tell you honestly, and not before.
Is AAU basketball better than high school?
AAU is an excellent outlet for fans and coaches to see top talent playing together in the same building. Compared to high school ball, there is only one game per night, and all of the top talents might not be playing that night.
How do I join an AAU team?
We have tryouts 4 times a year. Grades 4th through 8th have 4 tryouts per year. High School has 3 tryouts per year.
Do you have to pay for AAU basketball?
AAU does not come cheap. Depending on the team, families can expect to pay $400 to $4,000 per summer to play, including uniforms. … Most programs offer financial assistance for students that need it, but normally it only covers the cost to join the team, not the peripheral and all the activities.
