Pflugerville has become one of the deeper youth basketball pockets north of Austin, and Pflugerville ISD is a big reason why. Three comprehensive high schools in one district means a lot of kids chasing a limited number of varsity spots, and the ones who get there are rarely the ones who only play during the school season.
Our Pflugerville group pulls players from Bohls, Cele, Kelly Lane and Park Crest middle schools, and from Pflugerville High School, Hendrickson High School and Weiss High School. Those campuses feed genuinely competitive programs, and school coaches there are looking for the same things we drill: ball handling that holds up under pressure, defensive footwork, clean shooting mechanics and a player who reads the floor.
We do not run a facility inside Pflugerville. Families make a short drive to Round Rock or Cedar Park, where our teams use Round Rock Sports Center, Henry Middle School and Austin Sports Center Cedar Park. Practice schedules are shared ahead of time so carpools are easy to arrange with other Pflugerville families. Impact Sportz was founded in Chicago by Lonnie Welch and Toron Clark and relocated to Austin, where the program has been coaching Central Texas kids since 2010. What drew them to this work is what still drives it: a gym is one of the best places a kid learns discipline, patience and how to be counted on. Pflugerville ISD families have been part of that from early on. Boys join teams in 4th grade and girls in 5th, and we try to send every one of them home a little more confident than they walked in.

When is the AAU season?
The main stretch runs February through July, picking up right after the school season ends. Pflugerville players who want basketball outside that window can join our fall and winter teams or stay sharp with camps and small group training. Most families use some combination of the two across the year.
No. A lot of Pflugerville kids come to us from rec leagues, school ball or nothing at all. Camps, Little Hoopers and small group training exist for exactly that player. When a child is ready for the pace of AAU, we will tell you honestly, and not before.
Is AAU basketball better than high school?
AAU is an excellent outlet for fans and coaches to see top talent playing together in the same building. Compared to high school ball, there is only one game per night, and all of the top talents might not be playing that night.
How do I join an AAU team?
We have tryouts 4 times a year. Grades 4th through 8th have 4 tryouts per year. High School has 3 tryouts per year.
