About Our Harker Heights Youth Basketball Program

Impact Sportz works with Harker Heights families the honest way: we are an Austin-area program, and Harker Heights sits well north of our gyms. Killeen ISD families who come to us are usually looking for a level of AAU competition that is hard to find without traveling, and we would rather set that expectation clearly than sell you a convenience we cannot deliver.

Players in our program come out of Eastern Hills Middle School, Nolan Middle School and Union Grove Middle School, and from Harker Heights High School. Kids from the Harker Heights, Killeen and Nolanville area who make the commitment tend to arrive already used to physical, disciplined basketball, and they hold up well against metro competition. Our teams practice at Austin Sports Center Cedar Park, Henry Middle School and Round Rock Sports Center, where a Harker Heights player goes against kids from Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander and Pflugerville week after week.

For most Harker Heights families, the practical path in is a camp or clinic first. It lets your child meet the coaching staff and lets you see what the travel actually feels like before anyone commits to a season. Little Hoopers runs ages 6 to 8, boys join teams in 4th grade and girls in 5th, and the program runs through high school. Call 512-312-6283 and we will tell you honestly whether the trip makes sense.

Our Passion for Harker Heights Basketball

Impact Sportz was founded in Chicago by Lonnie Welch and Toron Clark, who relocated the program to Austin because they believed young players here deserved the same level of coaching and competition. That belief has not changed since 2010. We coach boys from 4th grade and girls from 5th through high school, and we care as much about how they carry themselves on the bench as how they score. When a Harker Heights family drives down to train with us, we owe them a practice worth the trip: real teaching, real reps and coaches who know their name.

If you are searching for youth basketball near Harker Heights, here is the honest answer: Impact Sportz does not have a gym in Harker Heights. Our practices and games run at Austin Sports Center Cedar Park, Henry Middle School and Round Rock Sports Center on the north side of the Austin area, which is a long haul from Harker Heights, Killeen and Nolanville — well over an hour of highway for most families. We say that up front because plenty of families still make the drive for high-level AAU competition, or catch us while they are already south for a tournament weekend. If that is you, call 512-312-6283 and we will talk through a schedule that actually works.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

Do you have a gym in Harker Heights?

No. Impact Sportz does not run a facility in Harker Heights. Our north-side gyms are Austin Sports Center Cedar Park, Henry Middle School and Round Rock Sports Center, which sit well over an hour south of Harker Heights. We are upfront about that so families can decide whether the drive fits their week.

Is the drive from Harker Heights really worth it?

That depends on your goals. Families who travel from Harker Heights and Killeen are usually chasing higher-level AAU competition than they can find close to home, or they are already heading toward Austin for tournament weekends. If you mainly want a weekly rec practice, a local league will serve you better, and we will tell you so honestly.

What ages and grades can play?

Little Hoopers runs for ages 6 to 8. Team basketball starts in 4th grade for boys and 5th grade for girls and continues through high school. Killeen ISD students in Harker Heights are welcome — we are an independent club, not tied to any school or district.

When does the season run?

Our main AAU stretch runs February through July, which is when most tournaments and travel weekends land. We also field fall and winter teams for families who want to keep playing year-round. For Harker Heights families weighing the commute, the spring and summer calendar is usually the easiest window to plan around.

How do we try out or get started?

Start with a call to 512-312-6283 or an email to impactsportz@gmail.com, and we will point you to the next tryout or camp date. Many families outside the metro come to a camp or clinic first to see whether the coaching and the commute make sense before joining a select roster.

Is AAU basketball better than high school?

AAU is an excellent outlet for fans and coaches to see top talent playing together in the same building. Compared to high school ball, there is only one game per night, and all of the top talents might not be playing that night.

How do I join an AAU team?

We have tryouts 4 times a year. Grades 4th through 8th have 4 tryouts per year. High School has 3 tryouts per year.

How much does it cost to play?

Costs vary by age group, season and how much tournament travel a team takes on. We would rather quote you honestly than post a number that does not fit your situation, so call 512-312-6283 or email impactsportz@gmail.com and we will walk you through exactly what a season looks like for your child.
