Buda has grown fast, and youth basketball has grown right along with it. Hays CISD is one of the fastest-expanding districts in Central Texas, and the competition for roster spots has expanded with the enrollment.
Our Buda group pulls players from Barton Middle School, Dahlstrom Middle School and McCormick Middle School, and from Hays High School and Johnson High School. Two comprehensive high schools serving Buda families means a lot of kids competing for a limited number of varsity minutes. School coaches at those campuses are evaluating ball handling under pressure, defensive footwork and shooting mechanics, and those are exactly the things our sessions are built around.
We do not operate a gym in Buda itself. Our south and central practices run at Austin Sports Center Central and Lively Middle School, both just north up I-35, an easy trip for families in Buda, Kyle, Mountain City, Manchaca and south Austin. That makes us a practical option for parents who want real AAU competition without driving across town to north Austin. Little Hoopers runs ages 6 to 8, boys join teams in 4th grade and girls in 5th, and the program continues through high school. Call 512-312-6283.

Little Hoopers is where our youngest Buda players start. Built for ages 6 to 8, the sessions meet at Austin Sports Center Central, a short run up I-35 from Buda, and focus on the fundamentals that make the game click: dribbling with either hand, catching and passing on the move, shooting form and simple team play. The room stays upbeat, so kids who have never touched a ball leave feeling capable. Boys and girls train together. Call 512-312-6283 for the next start date.

Buda has grown fast, and youth basketball has grown right along with it. Families here follow their Hays CISD teams, and the players we train are the ones competing for those roster spots. Impact Sportz was founded in Chicago by Lonnie Welch and Toron Clark and relocated to Austin, where we have been coaching Central Texas players since 2010. Our focus has stayed the same: give a young player skills that hold up when the game speeds up. Boys can join a team starting in 4th grade and girls in 5th, and many stay with the same coaching staff all the way through high school.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there AAU basketball near Buda?
Yes. Impact Sportz runs AAU select teams, camps and skills training for Buda families. We do not have a facility in Buda, so local players join our south and central groups at Austin Sports Center Central and Lively Middle School, both a short trip north on I-35. Practices are scheduled evenings and weekends to work around school.
Buda players train at Austin Sports Center Central and Lively Middle School, our two south and central gyms. Both are north of Buda along the I-35 corridor. Games and tournaments are played at those gyms and at events around Central Texas. Call 512-312-6283 and we will send you the current practice schedule.
How young can my child start playing basketball in Buda?
Age 6 is our starting point. Little Hoopers is designed for ages 6 to 8 and covers dribbling, passing, shooting form and playing with teammates. Team basketball begins in 4th grade for boys and 5th grade for girls, and the program continues through high school at the same gyms.
When are tryouts and how long is the season?
The main AAU season runs February through July, right after the high school season wraps up, and we also field fall and winter teams. That gives Buda players a place to keep developing year round. Tryouts are held ahead of each season. Call 512-312-6283 for the next tryout date and location.
Yes. Boys start on teams in 4th grade and girls in 5th, and both run through high school. Buda players are grouped by age and skill level rather than lumped together, so a newer player gets real instruction and an experienced one gets pushed. Every group trains at Austin Sports Center Central or Lively Middle School.
Is AAU basketball better than high school?
AAU is an excellent outlet for fans and coaches to see top talent playing together in the same building. Compared to high school ball, there is only one game per night, and all of the top talents might not be playing that night.
How do I join an AAU team?
We have tryouts 4 times a year. Grades 4th through 8th have 4 tryouts per year. High School has 3 tryouts per year.
How much does it cost to play?
Costs vary by age group, season and how much tournament travel a team takes on. We would rather quote you honestly than post a number that does not fit your situation, so call 512-312-6283 or email impactsportz@gmail.com and we will walk you through exactly what a season looks like for your child.
